Living Seawalls Restoring Habitats

Living Seawalls tour

Living Seawalls are innovative habitat panels that are repairing urban coastal ecosystems across the world, by providing habitat for snails, crabs, oysters, mussels and seaweeds.

During Climate Action Week Sydney, we partnered with Professor Melanie Bishop to explore the Manly Fairy Bower Living Seawalls installation up-close. Professor Bishop is the Living Seawalls Co-Lead, a marine ecologist at Macquarie University and former NSW Scientist of the Year.

Living Seawalls were finalists for the 2021 Earthshot Prize, a prestigious environmental award established by the Royal Foundation of the Prince and Princess of Wales. This project has been developed from 20 years of research and helping revitalise marine ecosystems around the world.
